经警方初步查明，这是一起严重暴力恐怖袭击案件，暴徒在乌鲁木齐火车南站出站口接人处持刀砍杀群众，同时引爆爆炸装置，造成3人死亡、79人受伤，其中4人重伤。
现已查明，色地尔丁·沙吾提(男，39岁，阿克苏沙雅县人)等两名犯罪嫌疑人长期受宗教极端思想影响，参与宗教极端活动，于4月30日19时10分许，在乌鲁木齐火车南站出站口接人处施爆。案件造成3人死亡，其中1名系无辜群众，2名犯罪嫌疑人当场被炸死。
案发后，自治区党委、政府第一时间调集各方力量，提供最好医疗条件，一对一救治伤员，并全力做好善后工作。目前，部分伤员已出院。
