燕郊地区常住人口近60万，其中近一半在北京工作。目前，燕郊地区尚无一家大规模三级医院。2010年12月正式运营的燕达医院，是一所按照国家三级甲等综合医院标准设置的大型民营医疗机构。记者了解到，燕达医院正在面临转型，由营利民营医院转变为非营利医院。
朝阳医院将通过医联体技术支持，帮助燕达医院具备三级甲等医院的服务功能，让燕郊本地居民以及居住在燕郊在北京工作的居民，在家门口享受北京三级甲等医院的优质医疗资源。
“以前，大家白天在北京看病，休息的时候想看病但又没有医院”，朝阳医院执行院长陈勇介绍，目前，两地政府正在积极落实两地社保及新农合相关政策，评估燕达医院能否列为医保定点医院，争取使住在燕郊地区的京、冀两地居民在该院看病享受医保报销。
同时，陈勇坦言，还将邀请北京更多医院来此，不仅满足基本的医疗需求，还要发展为特色专业学科。“以后就可以在家门口看上天坛医院的神外和同仁医院的眼科了。京津冀医疗一体化应该是技术支持，而不是一味地把医院搬出去。”
据了解，目前燕达医院年接诊人数为6万左右，今后将达到日均门诊量在一到两千。
不过，记者也发现，由于刚刚在合作初期，还有一些方面需要改善。比如燕达医院目前西药加中成药和饮片还不到一千，有些病人在看完病后，还需要到药店去买药，燕达医院的药品目录需要进一步扩充。
从今天起，朝阳医院呼吸与危重症医学科、心脏中心、消化内科、内分泌科、神经外科、普外科、泌尿外科、妇产科、皮肤科、高压氧医学科、急诊科、中医科和放射科的专家们每周两次赴燕达医院出门诊、查房。朝阳医院还将通过技术支持，帮助燕达医院具备三级甲等医院的服务功能。
