与贸易紧密相关的是投资。非洲是中国实施“走出去”战略的重要阵地，一大批中企走出国门，到非洲安家落户。如今在非投资的中企已超过2500家，中国对非直接投资存量规模已达250亿美元。非洲已成为中国的新兴投资目的地和第二大海外承包工程市场。中国在非洲建设了多个经贸合作区和工业园，提升了非洲的制造业水平。譬如埃塞俄比亚，得益于中国的投资，这里正逐步发展成为非洲的制造业中心。据非洲当地媒体报道，去年中国对赞比亚的各类投资高达20亿美元，几乎占赞全国GDP的一成。而且中国的对非投资，大部分流入各国的基础设施、农业和制造业领域。可以说，中国对非投资改变了非洲国家的经济和社会面貌。
中非关系的快速发展，不仅互利互惠，造福中非百姓，而且产生了巨大的溢出效应。第一，中非经贸投资合作，促进了非洲的经济增长，大大减少了全球的贫困和饥饿现象。这得到了世界银行等国际组织的公认。第二，中非关系的快速发展提升了非洲的国际政治和战略地位，非洲从西方眼中的“失败的大陆”、“绝望的大陆”转变为世人心目中“充满希望的热土”、“正在崛起的大陆”，美欧日等传统西方大国和印度、韩国、土耳其等新兴国家开始重新认识非洲，重视非洲，非洲开始变身为“香饽饽”。第三，促进了国际社会对非合作机制的发展。中非合作论坛的成功既激活了欧盟与非洲峰会等既有的对非合作机制，也催生了韩国-非洲论坛等新兴对非合作机制的建立，同时还诱发了与中国开展涉非三边合作的尝试，如欧盟出台了《中欧非三边合作沟通文件》等。第四，推动了国际体系转型。中非在国际舞台上的合作有着重大的国际政治和战略意义，促进了国际体系朝更为公平合理的方向发展，推进了国际政治经济新秩序的建立，促进了南南合作。
