7日晚7时许，虽然天色已晚，但是在三原县城生司巷修路挖开的坑道里，仍有不少人不停地在土里翻捡毛主席石膏像，有年轻人，也有老人。不远处，就是当时发现毛主席石膏像的那口枯井，粗略估计有七八米深，枯井上方的一大块土不知什么时候已经塌了下来，坑道上不时有土块滑落，让人不禁为他们捏了一把汗。
“又找到一个。”很快，有人便找到一个10公分高的毛主席石膏像，虽然石膏像上原先镀的金色已经变成了黑色，但是看起来依然栩栩如生。

三原县文物旅游局文物旅游稽查大队大队长王冰说，5月6日，接到群众举报后，他们马上赶到现场制止了居民的抢挖行为，但是当天晚上11时许又有人在那挖石膏像，最后被赶到的工作人员和民警制止。7日，工作人员在枯井里清理出大量毛主席石膏像，大大小小装了十几个蛇皮袋。由于这些石膏像当时散放进去的，大点的基本上都已经破碎，小的则要好一些。目前，三原县文物旅游局已经将这些毛主席石膏像移交给三原县博物馆保存。
