黑龙江森工总局野生动物保护处贾喜波告诉记者，“天然林资源保护工程”的实施和“停止商业性采伐”禁令的实施让黑龙江林区的野生动物种群数量有了很大的回升，野猪、袍子、鹿等野生东北虎的“猎物”种群数量恢复很快，野生东北虎的分布范围也逐步的扩大，目前黑龙江省东方红、迎春、绥阳、穆棱、桦南等林业局均发现过野生东北虎实体和踪迹。
据黑龙江省林业厅提供的监测数据表明，1998年黑龙江省野生东北虎数量在5-7只。大多数老虎分布于中俄边境林区，处于濒临绝迹的边缘。近几年，野生东北虎种群数量回升，稳定在10—14只。
贾喜波表示，未来林区还将加强反盗猎工作力度，并联合大学、国际组织等进一步加强野生东北虎的监测和保护。
东北虎属中国一级保护动物并被列入濒危野生动植物种国际贸易公约(CITES)附录。1958年，中国在黑龙江省建立了全国第一个丰林红松原始自然保护区。1962年，中国将东北虎列入野生动物保护名录。(完)
