财新记者从多个渠道确认了这一消息。郭振玺一直被视为中国官方电视界的重量级人物，在中央电视台工作了22年。目前，他在担任中央电视台财经频道(央视二套)总监的同时，还兼任中央电视台广告信息中心主任一职。
来自山东汶上县农家的郭振玺，于1981年考入山东大学物理系，时年16岁。1985年毕业时志愿入伍，在济南军区服役。两年后，考取兰州大学企业管理系研究生，据称“硕士期间曾发表47篇论文”。
1990年7月毕业后，郭振玺到国家广播电影电视部办公厅任秘书。1992年调入中央电视台经济部，任记者、编辑，1997年创办央视二套的《商务电视》栏目并担任制片人。1998年4月，郭振玺调至央视广告部担任副主任，三年后升任中央电视台广告部主任。2004年5月，郭振玺被提升为央视广告经济信息中心副主任，同时兼任广告部主任。
2005年7月至今，长达九年的时间里，郭振玺同时担任央视财经频道总监和广告经济信息中心主任这两个央视内部分跨新闻与经营的重要职务。与此同时，郭氏一手负责的每年央视315晚会和中国年度经济人物评选曾广受关注，但近年来也颇有争议。
去年12月，曾担任中央电视台副台长的原公安部副部长李东生落马后，既有郭振玺被协助调查的传言，但不久郭即正常出席中央电视台2014年3?15晚会暨“3?15在行动”系列活动新闻发布会并致辞。
此间分析人士向财新记者表示，郭振玺长期担任央视财经频道和广告中心两大核心部门的负责人，其被调查之后，所涉问题无疑将引起更大漪涟。此次直接由检方启动调查，意味着反腐正在法治轨道上深入。
中山大学传播学院副院长张志安教授认为，大型电视台的广告部门和各个内容频道之间应当设置防火墙。一个人既担任全台广告部门主要负责人，又担任该台经济频道的总监，是极具寻租风险和管理漏洞的人事安排。
