On July 7, 2014, Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad, the Prime Minister met with visiting Chinese Middle East Envoy Wu sike, the two sides mainly on bilateral relations and the current Iraq situation in an in-depth exchange of views on such issues. Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, Ambassador Wang Yong attended the meeting.


Sultan said that China highly values ties with Iraq relations of friendship and cooperation, and wishes to work together with the Iranian side to promote further development of Sino-Iraqi relations. Wu sike stressed that China firmly supports Iraq Government efforts to safeguard State sovereignty, independence and the fight against terrorism, hoped that Iraqi factions to further strengthen solidarity and consensus, as soon as possible to form inclusive, representative of the political power of the new Government. Iraq's stability in the whole region's peace, stability, and even to the world will have an impact. China also called on the international community for Iraq to provide more support and assistance, in keeping with the common interests of the international community. China will continue to work on the political, moral and material provide firm support to Iraq, also hopes that the Iranian side will continue to take effective measures to ensure safety of Chinese companies and personnel in Iraq.


Nouri al-Maliki described the Iraq situation, said the Chinese Government is facing enormous difficulties in Iraq's case to send a Special Envoy to visit, showed China was on Iraq's firm support. Iraq and China trust each other and are sincere friends, Iraqi side thanked the Chinese side for its efforts to safeguard Iraq's sovereignty, independence, and willing to work with China to continue to strengthen cooperation in various aspects, promote Sino-Iranian relations made new progress. Al-Maliki stressed that Iraq welcomes China's involvement in Iraqi reconstruction, will continue to provide security for Chinese personnel and property.
