为了方便阐述，就把电子书分为纯文字类和纯音质类。如果更加细分，纯文字类设备包括kindle类专业电子阅读设备和电脑、手机、平板等非专业类电子综合设备。
人为什么要读书？有可能是消磨时间，抑或是学习；当然，也有可能是条件限制，除了读书没有其他形式可选。不管是阅读纸质书还是电子书，阅读的目的得想清楚。
纯音质版电子书超出文字阅读范畴，严重点说，听电子书压根就不能算读书。所以说，这种电子书出门左转哪儿凉快哪儿待着去。

在三类设备中，使用手机阅读电子书的人群比例大一些，因为更便捷、更随时随地。抛开干扰因素，手机阅读电子书以趣味性为主，体裁上小说居多；但从阅读的目的性来说，手机阅读显然是为了消磨时间。电脑和平板，便捷性略差，干扰源不比手机少。
Kindle类电子阅读设备，自诞生起就是要挑战纸质书的地位。它有海量储存，一台设备可以“装”进很多电子书；它有手机的便捷性，体积不大，能够随时随地，比纸质书还方便；它没有像手机那样的干扰，可以让阅读者更专注；它的视觉体验不比纸质书差。
然而，Kindle依然无法撼动纸质书的至高无上，它败在两点：读者与作者的深层互动体验和它的“出身”。
读者与作者的深层互动体验，这个猛一看格调有点高，其实指的是读书过程中可意会不可言传的感觉。当人在读书进入深阅读的时候，思维层面就开始处理文字背后的信息，“读书就是与作者对话”、“一千个读者有一千个哈姆雷特”等俗语说的就是这种体验。而这种体验就是读书让人沉醉的地方，谁为人类创造了这种体验？正是纸质书。从技术层面讲，是造纸术、印刷术等古老技术为读书做的贡献。
我有位朋友，读书时必须要备上笔和本，如果没有本子，笔是必备的，他读书时喜欢在本子上、或者书上留白处写写画画。我请教过他这个习惯，他的回答很干脆：读到共鸣点，想写出来加深记忆；读到不懂的地方，标记出来并写出疑问，在脑海中留下烙印空余时间思考。
电子书的便捷性在设备本身，但互动的便捷性比不上纸质书，尤其是像这位朋友的自我互动；电脑、手机、平板能上网，似乎可以与网友互动，但与外界互动的同时，加剧思维的碎片化，摧毁了自我思考的系统性。
Kindle的“出身”不好在于，它是电子设备。和纸张对抗，电子设备输在既有观念。人们有千万种理由相信电子设备的未来要好于纸张，只可惜现阶段又不得不承认纸张的体验更好。在读书这件事上，纸质书暂时没有消亡的迹象。
纸质书存在的土壤也很肥沃：上学的课本、学生写作业、教辅材料。我们在教育阶段还在享受造纸术、印刷术这种古老技术创造的载体，既然纸质书在获取知识的过程中扮演着举足轻重的角色，我们有怎样的理由能说服自己离开校园后就能马上扔掉纸质书、拥抱电子书？纸质书带来的阅读体验就是文字阅读，电子书却在文字阅读上尝试新突破。
那么问题来了，摧毁纸质书的“二向箔”会是什么呢？答案是技术，这种技术并不是在纸张、电子设备上小修小补，而是直接创造出新的阅读体验。一旦这种体验成为引爆点，并逐渐覆盖到学习、工作等生活中的各种场景，文字阅读的习惯将被冲击，纸质书成为历史也将进入倒计时。
听起来有点空洞，或许这种技术会带来这样的阅读场景：在未来，当你开始阅读时，你会拿起一台虚拟现实设备，有人工智能引到你进入到私人定制的阅读空间，这个阅读空间方便你查阅读书记录，也方便你随时记录思维过程；它的阅读体验丰富多彩，又能让你不被打扰、保持专注。
原谅我的想像力不够丰富，这个阅读场景似乎没特别之处。但我想表达的意思是，当新技术创造出的新体验足够吸引人的时候，恰好这种体验在读书这件事更加迷人，以至于文字阅读的习惯被“忘记”，那么纸质书消亡的预言就会开始应验。
