据SamMbile所说,三星电子最近投入量产Exynos 8 OCTA首度采用自主研发的CPU核心Exynos M1,显示三星半导体部门的技术能力大幅提升。据韩媒inews24报导,Exynos 8890以自主研发的SCI取代以往使用的ARM CoreLink CCI-400引发瞩目。业界人士表示,三星电子继自主研发设计的CPU核心之后,又搭载了应用自家专利技术的SCI,接下来将以自家专利技术开发芯片组。

三星为迎战后智能型手机时代,积极推动深度学习(Deep Learning)的相关研发,自主研发绘图处理器(GPU)也与此不无关系。因为取得更多关于AP的独家设计专利,就可以降低开发新芯片组时,减少必须支付的专利授权费,也能省下更多预算用于研发。

三星在MWC2016中展示Exynos 8890采用的新技术Janus,也引发外界好奇。三星方面说明,透过Janus引擎Exynos 8 OCTA的性能可以比Exynos 7提升30%,并宣布将应用于未来新上市的芯片组。

由于三星自Exynos 8890就开始使用新的CPU核心驱动方式,因此部分业界人士也猜测该技术就是所谓的Janus。实际上,Exynos 8890采用64位元ARM v8架构,以自主设计的4颗Exynos M1核心与4颗ARM Cortex-A53核心组成。不同于Exynos 7420作业量增加时,会将低功耗的A53与高性能A57全部启动,M1使用的新技术在平常只驱动2颗频率为2.6GHz的大核心,当任务繁重时候,则改以驱动4颗2.3GHz核心。
