解放军陆军领导机关成立以及五大战区陆军组建之后，原先隶属于七大军区的陆军18个集团军也于近期渐次确定了“指挥棒”归属。
其中，原济南军区陆军第20集团军已转隶中部战区陆军。
据“军报记者-中部战区”报道，2016年3月22日，战友文工团50余名演员奔赴第20集团军某炮兵团为基层官兵倾情演出。这篇报道同时提及，在团综合训练场，为迎接中部战区首考，到处都是官兵紧张训练的身影。
这意味着，原济南军区下辖的第20集团军已转隶中部战区陆军。
第20集团军军部驻地为河南开封，现任军长和政委分别是宋鸿晓少将、薛君少将。
本轮国防和军队改革之前，国新办2013年4月发布的《中国武装力量的多样化运用》白皮书介绍称，“陆军机动作战部队包括18个集团军和部分独立合成作战师（旅），现有85万人。集团军由师、旅编成，分别隶属于7个军区”。

随后，原先隶属于7大军区的陆军集团军分别转隶各大战区陆军的消息也于近期渐次披露。
其中，原南京军区下辖的第1、12、31集团军全部转隶东部战区陆军，原兰州军区第21集团军转隶西部战区陆军，原成都军区第14集团军转隶南部战区陆军，原济南军区第54集团军转隶中部战区陆军，原沈阳军区第16集团军转隶北部战区陆军。
