事发地位于广西北海市铁山港区南康镇一民房工地内。当天15时许，北海市消防指挥中心接到报警后，立即调派2个中队、4辆消防车和24名消防官兵前往处置。
消防官兵到达现场后发现，塌方工地是一个宽约1米、深2米的土坑，位于两间沿街民房之间，旁边停放着一台挖土机。事发后，当地民众和民警已救出2名被困者，还有1人被困于土坑内。
随后，消防官兵立即挖土救援，于16时许成功救出第3名被困者，并将其抬出土坑外。经到场医护人员检查确认，第3名被困者已无生命体征。另外2名受伤人员被送往医院救治无碍。
据介绍，事发当天下午，户主和2名工人正在现场挖土施工。其间工地突然出现塌方，将3人埋于土坑内，户主由于伤势过重当场死亡。(完)
