　　中国台湾网4月9日讯　中台禅寺开山方丈惟觉大和尚昨天（8日）晚间10时31分圆寂。寺方指出，老和尚已高龄90，身体机能自然退化，圆寂时面容慈祥，寺方9日将整理法会场地，悼念老和尚。

　　惟觉大和尚是台湾佛教界领袖人物之一，各界众多显达皈依门下。其领导的中台禅寺占地30多公顷，耗资30亿元新台币，拥有百万信徒，在台湾具有相当的影响力。

　　惟觉大和尚曾多次来大陆参访，对家乡四川十分挂念。从2001年到2006年，中台禅寺在四川成都、南充、绵阳等地都做过交流活动。2001年他第一次回到营山县时，个人在当地捐建了一所希望小学，半年内落成开学。他表示，这是对家乡的回馈，“我们在大陆举办了许多交流活动，这些活动给我们带来了希望，希望大陆与台湾不断举行交流活动”。

　　据台湾《中国时报》报道，惟觉大和尚近年来健康不佳，已相当时间不对外见客，但内部活动仍择要出席指导。最近一次露面是在今年1月17日中台禅寺举行的腊八围炉暨各精舍联合结业法会，有近万名信众目睹老和尚慈顏，欢欣鼓掌。

　　中台禅寺所属天祥宝塔禅寺原定昨日起举办三天的清明法会，因惟觉和尚病危而临时取消。全台上百家精舍的活动也全部暂停，所有住持法师都赶回山上为和尚祈福。（中国台湾网 高旭）
