南海是古代“海上丝绸之路”的主要航道。这片广阔的水域联结了亚、欧、非三大洲文明。800前，一艘满载货物的宋代商船，在航行到西沙华光礁时不幸触礁沉没。直至21世纪，作为在我国西沙群岛的远海地区发现的第一艘古船，这艘南宋古船方被考古学家打捞出水，被定名为华光礁1号沉船。
昨天，海南省博物馆丘刚馆长告诉记者，1996年古船由渔民发现，1998—1999年开始进行水下考古调查：“那时候我们还没有专门的水下考古船只，非常辛苦，到了2008年，我们终于成功完成对船体的发掘，分解提取运回海南省博物馆进行脱盐、脱水保护处理。”不过，观众现在就算到了海南省博物馆，也还看不到这艘古船，据丘刚馆长介绍，船体打捞上来后共有500多块船板，正在修复复原，预计8年后才能还原成功。

另外，船上数量较多的是瓷器，有江西景德镇的，有福建地方窑口的；有生活用的碗、碟、盘、壶，有文房用的笔洗，还有女人用的粉盒。据悉，在这些瓷器中，又数粉盒最多，足有上千件，说明当时不仅国内女性广泛使用这种存放脂粉的化妆盒，也大量销往海外。
昨天，丘刚院长向记者介绍了几件重点展品。比方说一块伊斯兰教徒珊瑚石墓碑，“这块伊斯兰教徒珊瑚石墓碑是唐宋时期的，海南陵水黎族自治县英州镇福湾出土。背面的文字说明他是一位国王的亲戚。在600多年前，阿拉伯商人航行万里，到中国开辟海上商路。不过当时海上航行风险很大，这些墓葬的主人也许来自东非和阿拉伯半岛，一路漂洋过海，将海南作为了一生最后的归宿。用的便是海洋里特有的珊瑚石做墓碑。”

昨天，丘刚院长盛赞南博展厅布置之巧妙，他表示，该古船此前在全国多地巡回展览，但都没达到这个效果，他抬头向天花板望去，称：“我尤其欣赏这个顶部的处理，布置成了星空或蓝天白云，与海洋文化相映成趣，我们兴建中国南海博物馆时可能会借鉴。”
