2013年10月16日，开封市纪委发布消息，王占清因严重违反纪律，被开除党籍、开除公职，移送司法机关处理。最终，王占清被法院一审判处有期徒刑13年。
理想信念动摇，他在歧路上越走越远

他在领导岗位上不是想着如何把工作做好，而是整天想着如何当更大的官，谋更大的权。为此，他严重违反纪律，先后几次向开封市委组织部原部长李森林（因受贿罪被判处无期徒刑）行贿，妄图“走捷径”。
他采取虚假列支等手段，从小金库里拿钱购买名人字画，以逢年过节“看望”领导之名，先后几次给李森林送钱送物，做着“用钱开路、更进一步”的春秋大梦。
不料，很快东窗事发，他“一夜梦碎”，最终“掉进”自己挖下的腐败大坑，万劫不复。
欲壑难填，情妇把他推入“火坑”
理想信念的缺失，精神支柱的坍塌，让王占清对事业越来越迷茫。
他在《悔过书》里写道：“当对仕途感到迷茫时，自己又把注意力转移到了‘情场’。2007年，同情人生下一子……随着孩子渐渐长大，情人的贪欲也越来越强，多次以购房缺钱和孩子大了需要名分为由，逼着我为其筹款筹物，稍不满足就以到组织部门举报和领着孩子到我单位闹等手段威胁。我害怕事情败露、事情闹大后，更没法在社会上和亲人朋友面前混，所以也就没有勇气主动向组织交代问题，而是采取答应退让等手段，在违纪的泥潭里越陷越深……”
王占清在和情人陈某某交往后，想尽办法捞钱，为其买房、买车，甚至编造理由向亲朋好友借债供“情人”挥霍，道德败坏、令人不耻。在与情妇见不得光的交易中，情人总能死死揪住他“天不怕地不怕，就怕因丑闻败露而丢官”的软肋，向他索要甚至勒索钱物，他无不就范。
他多次“找发票”贪占公款，明目张胆地向一些单位伸手要钱，疯狂敛财。
权力与美色调和出的绝不是美酒，而是有着诱人香味的毒酒。当王占清经不住诱惑，向美色靠近第一步之时，离贪污腐败、违法乱纪就更近了一步。直到“落马”，他才幡然悔悟，痛哭流涕。
“我深知自己是一个罪孽深重的人，每当深夜泪水在梦中都会将枕巾打湿，严父慈母的音容笑貌都会将我唤醒，父母都已年过七旬且都患有严重心脏疾病，我不能床前尽孝，却又违法乱纪，怎能让他们安享晚年……‘爸爸，您在哪里？我想您呀爸爸，您快些回来吧！’女儿这深情的呼唤击碎了我的心。此时此刻，我泣不成声，泪如雨下。”一失足成千古恨，再回头已是百年身！王占清违纪违法，害己误家，他的教训，值得每一名党员干部深思。（陈璞）
