最新发布的2016年度排名，通过加权分数式计量（WFC），对全球科研机构、国家和地区、核心学科、高校及企业等在去年全年的表现分别进行了评估。

WFC指数主要以论文发表为标准，同时考虑了不同学科之间的权衡问题，能较全面地反映论文作者、机构和国家对全球科学的贡献。

在全球科研机构排名中，中科院以1357.82分蝉联榜首，这一分值几乎比排名第二的美国哈佛大学（772.33分）多出一倍。但从整体来看，欧美等传统科研强势地区仍然优势明显。除中科院和排名第六的东京大学外，前10名的科研机构中另外8所全部来自欧美。

美国在国家和地区排名中仍然高居首位，中国继续排名第二，WFC分值仅为美国的约三分之一。不过，中国仍保持着稳步提高的势头，去年的分值比2014年增加4.8%，这一增速在前10名中最高，美国则下降4.5%。

高校方面，哈佛大学、斯坦福大学和东京大学位居前三，北京大学排在第11位，在中国学府中排位最高。中国高校跻身前50名的还有南京大学（20）、清华大学（24）、中国科学技术大学（26）、浙江大学（37）、复旦大学（38）和南开大学（50）。

美国IBM在企业机构中排名第一，瑞士两大制药巨头罗氏和诺华分列二、三位。中国华大基因排第12位，在中国企业中领跑。

此外，在《自然》列出的四大核心学科排名中，中科院在物理、化学、地球与环境科学3个专业排名全球第一。但在生命科学领域，中国科研机构排名普遍较低，除中科院位居第九外，没有其他机构跻身前50位。
