“在规模上发展和基础研究上发力，是动力电池的努力方向。”万钢在2016中国汽车论坛上说，今后我国会更加注重对基础技术的研究，并在动力电池的发展过程中不断凝练问题，找出科学解决方法，解决共性关键技术问题。
据了解，随着我国对动力电池研发的不断投入，动力电池的效率不断提高、成本持续下降。与2011年相比，2015年的动力电池单位能量密度已经提高了一倍，制造成本降低了30%。
“无论从能源、环保，还是汽车产业自身发展来看，汽车行业的未来都指向着新能源方向。”万钢说，我国能源结构的调整为新能源汽车发展提供了能源保障；相关法规为汽车行业提出的降耗要求也推动着产业向新能源方向转型。
近年来，我国新能源汽车产业得到快速发展。中汽协数据显示，今年1月至3月，全国新能源汽车生产62663辆，销售58125辆，而2011年全年我国新能源汽车的产销量不足5000辆。
