陈尚梅曾被誉为“励志”女老板，出生于1957年的她，是江苏省阜宁县人，只有小学文化，早年当过服装厂工人、做过干洗店老板，52岁时又“转行”进入食品行业，成为知名企业家，她曾任江苏广源豆制品有限公司法定代表人、扬中市第九届政协委员、扬中华商会理事长。

2014年12月3日，陈尚梅被逮捕。2015年9月29日，扬中市检察院就陈尚梅非法吸收公众存款一案向扬中法院提起公诉。
法院审理查明，2009年至2014年，陈尚梅违反国家金融管理法规，以生产经营、投资为名，以高额利息回报为诱饵，公开向社会公众非法吸收资金。陈尚梅以出具借款凭证，承诺年利率20%、30%不等的方式，共计向800余名受害人非法吸收公众存款2.88亿元，造成直接经济损失2.81亿元。
法院认为，陈尚梅的行为已构成非法吸收公众存款罪。案发后，陈尚梅主动投案，在公安机关对其询问时，能如实供述自己的犯罪事实，系自首，根据相关规定，依法可以从轻或减轻处罚。最终，一审判处陈尚梅有期徒刑9年，罚金45万元。
