有人叫他“土专家”，依靠自制的工具，为成千上万长安汽车用户排忧解难；也有人叫他“老中医”，将“望、闻、听、切”的独门绝技推广到全国汽车行业，名传四方；还有人称赞他为“活雷锋”，从他的身上，你能看到雷锋精神的存在和雷锋般的人格魅力。他就是全国劳动模范、重庆长安汽车股份有限公司江北发动机工厂发动机维修工张永忠。他用30多年的坚实步伐，向人们展示了一个从木工到中国汽车行业发动机维修专家的蜕变。
木工成了“老中医”
1983年，张永忠脱下一身“橄榄绿”，来到重庆长安汽车（集团）有限责任公司，并被分配到当时的31车间从事木工工作。次年，正值公司研制发动机之初，由于他踏实的工作作风和勤学好问的钻劲，领导和同事们推荐其从木工岗位调离，从事汽车发动机的组装调试工作。这便是张永忠与发动机“不解之缘”的起始。
在这个全新的领域里，他从一个个螺钉干起、从基本的零件名称学起，装配、磨合、调试，不分工种，什么都干，为长安汽车第一台“江陵”发动机的点火成功付出了无数的心血和汗水。
时光如梭，30多年来，张永忠始终“干一行、爱一行、钻一行”，经他手调修好的发动机已经数不清有多少台。在这期间，他先后被评选为工厂十佳能手、公司一级技能师、重庆市劳动模范、中国兵装集团技能大师、全国技术能手、中华技能大奖……
荣誉的背后，像“老黄牛”一样奋力行走了20多年的张永忠积劳成疾，双腿股骨头坏死。他忍着剧痛坚持上班，直到医院发出通牒，再不手术就瘫痪了！
术后不到1个月，张永忠再次返回工作岗位。尽管拄着双拐行动不便，他依然保持着昂扬的精神和勇往直前的干劲，哪里有问题，哪里就有他。他的足迹遍及祖国大江南北，哪里有发动机的“疑难杂症”，他就在第一时间赶到哪里，挽袖上阵直至故障排除。
“张永忠是中国汽车发动机维修的‘老中医’。”张永忠的同事们告诉记者，他眼睛很亮。一次，他发现，即将发往南美的上千台发动机排气管状态错误。他在第一时间反映了问题，避免了工厂更大的损失。他耳朵很灵，总是能从撞击声音中察觉质量问题。有一次，他在巡查时听到，工人在撞击打力过程中的撞击声音似乎和标准力度下发出的声音有些出入。他赶紧查看仪器的显示，果然发现了连杆螺母力矩小的质量问题。

赌气“赌”出专利来
因为工作职责的关系，发动机维修经常面对用户的抱怨甚至辱骂。每当遇到这种情况，他总是耐心解释，以事实让用户“抱怨而来满意而归”。
2013年3月4日，贵州维修站反馈一辆欧诺发动机异响，维修站多次维修无法排除。该用户强烈要求更换发动机总成，并说出“今天不把问题解决就砸了维修站”这样的过激言论。张永忠听闻后立即赶赴现场与之进行沟通，凭借多年的维修经验，他快速锁定原因：由于用户使用劣质汽油造成发动机工作异常、爆震异响。现场路试结果表明，张永忠发动机维修功夫确实了得，而这位用户也为自己最初出格的言行表示了歉意。
张永忠不仅是技术能手，还是创新的排头兵。在江北发动机工厂，大家都知道张永忠攻克G系列气门调整螺钉的故事：
在一次技术交流中，张永忠发现G系列气门间隙调整合格率低，调整螺钉和摇臂报废率高，且费时费力，严重影响生产速度。为提高生产效率，他首先找到日本厂商询问，是否可以提供调整气门间隙的专用工具，但对方提出需要将相关部件资料运回日本本土进行开发，且不保证完全解决问题，价格也相当昂贵。
这让张永忠非常愤慨。
“不求别人，我自己来！”
有些“赌气”的张永忠日夜鏖战，自己动手设计、画图纸，试验，再修改，再推翻重来……通过反复的实践和摸索，一个又快又能保证质量的专用工具、工装终于研制成功并投入使用，其装配合格率达100%，报废率为零，不但突破了生产瓶颈，还获得了国家专利。
据不完全统计，从2002年至今，张永忠从事售后服务解决用户抱怨问题50余起；解决发动机疑难杂症400余起，解决发动机质量问题300余起；同时，张永忠还积极组织和参与各类技术攻关：其组织参与技术攻关70余起，创造经济价值5000余万元，通过攻关的技术创新，其个人获得3个国家专利；此外，他还积极参与员工合理化建议活动，所提出的合理化建议为公司节约3000多万元。
“全能”团队展风采
在一台发动机前，记者看到，一群工人簇拥着一位师傅，仔细聆听他讲解发动机装调知识。这位大师就是张永忠。
张永忠说，把自己多年掌握、练就的维修技巧传授给更多的青年员工，是他的最大愿望。为此，他与公司数几十名年青员工签订了“名师带高徒”的配对协议，不但把技术技能传授给大家，还亲手带出了一支熟练掌握发动机调修的国家级全能团队。如今，他的全能团队中，有公司二、三级技能师5人，高级技师25人，技师100余人，在兵装集团技能大赛中屡获发动机装调项目一、二、三等奖。长安汽车现在的发动机调修一线技术骨干中，有80%接受过他的指点。
张永忠深知，仅凭一个或几个人的力量远不能满足服务的需要，于是，在他的倡议和带领下，2006年公司组织成立“张永忠服务小分队”，走访了重庆近郊300多个服务站，解决问题400多起。
如今，长安全国各地维修站员工遇到棘手问题，都会向张永忠求教，张永忠不仅不嫌麻烦，而且很开心，因为，让每台发动机都拥有强健的心脏是他最大的心愿。
“人的生命是有限的，但为人民服务是无限的，我要把有限的生命，投入到无限的‘为人民服务’之中去。”这是张永忠的座右铭，更是他一直追求的目标。
