这5所高校是清华大学、北京大学、复旦大学、上海交通大学和浙江大学。清华大学和北京大学分别排在第18位和第21位，是中国高校首次位列20强前后。复旦大学和上海交通大学位于71至80组别，浙江大学位于81至90组别。
进入百强的中国香港高校包括香港大学（第45位）和排在71至80组别的香港中文大学和香港科技大学；中国台湾进入百强的高校是台湾大学，位于81至90组别。
《泰晤士报高等教育》负责大学排名的编辑菲尔·贝蒂说：“中国自上世纪90年代以来在高等教育方面投入更多，同时还在进行改革，这使得中国高校在世界舞台上更具竞争力。”
