在直播平台上，一些排名靠前的人气主播往往自己就是某个“家族”或者“公会”的实际管理者。通过在直播平台上物色合适的主播，以签约的方式对其进行培训，提供直播的场地和器材，指导他们如何与观众互动，通过“连麦”为其吸引人气，然后再将这些主播推到不同的平台上。在这种形式下，“家族”或者“公会”直接从观众消费中抽成作为盈利。
喵喵表示，加入“家族”后，一方面人气相对容易增长，另一方面“家族”也会通过刷礼物的方式来吸引更多的人消费。
记者了解到，一些专门培养网红主播的经纪公司，与直播网站私下商定协议，以超低的内部价格买下最高级别的礼物，用内部傀儡账号刷向自家主播的直播间，行内管这叫做“黄牛号”。这样的礼物，主播自己分文不得，却可以借趋同效应，或是攀比心理，惹得一些不明内幕的“土豪”拿货真价实的礼物与之“对刷”，以征得主播的注意。
除了打赏，主播、“家族”和平台也会与商业活动合作，在直播中以打广告和宣传自己淘宝店铺的方式增加收入。对于互动相对较少的游戏直播来说，这两种方式目前已经成为主要的盈利模式。
急速膨胀的直播市场
4月，移动社交应用软件陌陌更新至6.7版本，将“直播”直接放在主屏位置，这意味着陌陌将移动视频直播上升到了战略层面，并正式宣告加入视频直播平台大战。此外，另一大社交媒体平台微博也宣布与一下科技合作即将推出直播功能。
在4月底召开的2016中国绿公司年会上，新浪董事长兼CEO曹国伟表示，当前上百家公司在做的直播市场竞争很惨烈。
市场的反应最先表现在资本的疯狂涌入上。欢聚时代10亿砸向虎牙和ME直播，斥资1亿签下主播MISS；腾讯4亿投资斗鱼，后者市场估值目前已经达到10亿美元；新成立的映客获得昆仑万维、复赛等机构的8000万人民币投资；易直播获得6000万人民币A轮融资；360推出花椒、秒拍推出一直播和Msee、美拍也推出直播功能。行业报告数据显示，2015年直播行业市场规模约为150亿元，到2020年，总规模还将上升至1060亿元。其中，仅移动秀场直播一项，预计就将拿下400亿元的市场规模。

直播同样吸引到了明星和商业品牌的注意。刘涛的首次视频直播开场5分钟造成了直播平台瘫痪，创造了总收看人数71万的纪录。杜蕾斯刚刚在B站直播《百人试戴杜蕾斯》。与此同时，各个从业者斥巨资投入内容生产：“赵家班”弟子活跃于映客，花椒直播上聚集着不少“好声音”成员，咸蛋家主打通过网剧走红的新人如盛一伦、黄景瑜，ME直播赞助鹿晗全国演唱会，美拍与张艺兴、范爷合作，熊猫TV签约Angelababy当主播。就连大洋彼岸的脸书也开始把直播LIVE功能放到战略位置，扎克伯格表示震惊于直播的潜力。
