据悉，不是所有的电子垃圾都会被本国回收，很多都会被出口到其它国家，西雅图的电子垃圾监督组织Basel Action Network与MIT联合给出的最新报告显示，通过在旧电子设备上安装GPS发现，有三分之一的被跟踪电子垃圾最终去了墨西哥、中国、巴基斯坦、泰国、多米尼加、加拿大和肯尼亚。

根据这份报告，目前为止大部分出口的有毒电子垃圾进入香港，中国大陆虽是第二名，却远远落后香港，电子垃圾最主要的目的地是香港新界的一个郊区。

BAN认为，这样的转变是由于中国近期开始落实其电子垃圾进口禁令，因中国法规加严，香港成最新的垃圾天堂。
