广东警方就“跨省抓错人” 的案子出具侦查终结报告
刑拘15天后，5月9日晚上近11时，张嘉伟因“四会检察院不予批捕”被广东省四会市看守所释放。
5月13日，广东省四会警方指派专人来到内蒙古赤峰市，会见了被四会警方“跨省错抓”的内蒙古男子张嘉伟的家属。
张嘉伟的父亲对澎湃新闻（www.thepaper.cn）说，上午10时他接到通知，前往赤峰市红山区公安分局，见到了广东四会市公安局潘姓副局长。张嘉伟的父亲说，潘姓副局长称这个案子基本可以确定存在问题，其受广东省公安厅和肇庆市公安局的委派对张嘉伟家属进行慰问，抓到肇事车并仔细核实后，会立即向家属道歉，撤销此案。
张嘉伟本人并未得到通知，没有见到广东警方人士。
张嘉伟父亲还向澎湃新闻透露，内蒙古赤峰市红山区公安分局石姓局长告诉他，广东警方已经抓获套牌车肇事司机。但就套牌车肇事司机是否已被抓捕，广东四会警方向澎湃新闻表示，目前仍在办案阶段，不便透露。
内蒙古赤峰红山区公安分局的东姓警官向澎湃新闻证实，5月13日广东四会警方确实来到内蒙古，并且会见了张嘉伟的家属，套牌车等其他办案细节暂时不便透露。
早在3月8日，张嘉伟被广东警方列为网上追逃对象，4月25日，张嘉伟被广东警方“跨省追捕”，称其于1月在广东四会驾驶车牌为“京××7700”的路虎车打人，涉嫌故意伤害刑拘15天。后因检察院不予批捕被释放，张嘉伟代理律师称四会检察院表示此案“证据不足，事实不清”，张嘉伟及其家属始终认为系套牌车作案，并向北京警方就套牌车一案报案。
5月13日，张嘉伟的妻子冯女士通过122交警事故服务热线转接北京某交警支队执法站，执法站工作人员对冯女士说，如果要追究套牌车肇事者的责任，需向广东警方提出申请。
张嘉伟的代理律师刘志民和王殿学于5月13日下午5时左右联系广东四会警方的办案人员，要求尽快撤销案件并结束取保候审，并为张嘉伟恢复名誉，追究相关人员的责任。
13日下午7时，张嘉伟的父亲告诉澎湃新闻，赤峰市红山区公安分局刑警大队的民警通知他，广东四会警方关于张嘉伟案的侦查终结报告和解除取保候审决定书已传真至红山区公安分局，张嘉伟可于明天前往领取并签字。
