年会邀请了中国、美国、俄罗斯、欧洲等国家和地区的卫星导航系统主管部门官员和国际知名专家学者，就卫星导航领域最新进展和发展趋势作大会特邀报告，将围绕北斗应用，导航与位置服务、卫星导航信号、卫星轨道与钟差、精密定位技术、原子钟与时频技术、政策法规标准及知识产权等议题展开深入讨论与交流。此外，年会还将颁发优秀论文奖、青年优秀论文奖和第七届“北斗杯”全国青少年科技创新大赛奖等奖项，并同期举办第七届中国卫星导航技术与应用成果展，全方位展示卫星导航领域最新成果、创新理念和应用前景。
北斗系统是我国自主建设、独立运行，与世界其他卫星导航系统兼容共用的全球卫星导航系统，可在全球范围内全天候、全天时为各类用户提供高精度、高可靠的定位、测速、授时服务，并兼具短报文通信能力。北斗系统作为国家重大信息基础设施，2012年底正式提供区域服务以来，系统连续稳定运行，性能指标稳中有升，满足10米指标要求，部分地区性能优于承诺指标。自2015年以来，已成功组网发射了5颗新一代北斗导航卫星和1颗区域服务备份卫星。
目前，我国已形成包括基础产品、应用终端、运行服务等较为完整的北斗产业体系，正在从行业应用拓展到大众应用，呈现快速发展局面。2015年国内卫星导航总产值已达1900亿元，其中北斗系统贡献率约30%；国产北斗芯片、模块、天线等关键技术已取得全面突破，掌握卫星导航芯片核心技术自主知识产权，北斗芯片跨入40纳米新时代。北斗系统已经在海上运输、气象、渔业、公共安全、民政减灾救灾、林业等11个行业进行示范应用。
