据介绍，该富锡矿床由内蒙古地质勘查有限责任公司，发现于赤峰市克什克腾旗巴彦高勒苏木的维拉斯托矿区，探明333以上锡金属量8.37万吨，达两个大型锡矿床规模，锡矿床平均品位0.8%。这一重大发现有望使我国在南岭和云南个旧外形成第三个锡资源生产基地。
维拉斯托矿区是2008年投产的铜锌矿。2013年，内蒙古地质勘查有限责任公司根据新发现的锡矿线索，将原来的找铜锌转为找锡，在探明8.37万吨锡金属量的同时，还探明独立的钼、铜金属量和伴生锌铅锌、钨、砷、铋、银、硫、镓、铷等元素。据测算，这一矿床的潜在经济价值超过150亿元。
