简稚澄毕业于台大兽医系，以特考榜首考上兽医师。秉持着一颗热爱动物的心，选择到新屋偏乡，一待就是6年多。却在5日晚间开车到观音白沙峡灯塔旁，选择服用给狗儿安乐死的药物自杀。
简稚澄在遗书中指出，“生命没有不同”，希望政府能做好动保源头管制。简稚澄称，选择以平时对狗儿安乐死的手段自杀，是为了凸显现有台湾动保结构的问题。因为政府没有给足资源，无法做好源头管制，让流浪狗，以至于最下游的收容所都是苦难。
桃园市政府动保处长陈仁信表示，简园长工作表现良好，堪称是“全台表现最好的收容所长”，简稚澄的学长也在脸书发文悼念表示，聪明漂亮的她却选择了兽医界避而远之的地方去服务，经常一周五天、甚至六天待在那，频频加班的10点，只为了想帮助小动物。学长劝说她不适合待在那，她却只是温柔说“不做没有别人做”。
简稚澄虽然致力于医治、保护每一只小动物，但毕竟个人能力有限。在过去的两年里，她执行了700多只流浪狗的安乐死。因此网上不少动物保护人士攻击她，称她是“女屠夫”、“女刽子手”。
据了解，简稚澄在第一天来上班时，便看见60多只动物被安乐死，回家就难过哭了一整夜。但安乐死也是她的职责所在。网络群众盲目跟风，与动物保护团体一同进行网络霸凌，让刚结婚过完蜜月的简稚澄最终选择以死明志。
有动物保护志愿者表示，稚澄不是自杀！是对动物保护整体结构的“死谏”！
