　　湖南省人民检察院官方微博@湖南检察 消息，5月21日，雁北监狱囚犯聚众赌博事件被媒体曝光后，湖南省和衡阳市两级检察机关高度重视。根据省人民检察院的指示，衡阳市人民检察院已成立专门调查组，正依法展开调查。

　　5月22日，湖南省监狱管理局主要负责人在接受澎湃新闻采访时表示，雁北监狱罪犯涉赌问题曝光后，湖南省司法厅、省监狱管理局高度重视，在第一时间成立以局纪委书记为组长，局纪委、狱内侦查等部门参加的专门调查组，深入调查，严肃处理，绝不护短。同时，将在全省监狱系统开展专项整治，进一步加强和规范监狱管理。

　　澎湃新闻21日报道，雁北监狱在刑犯黄雄毛、刑满释放人员邹保生等5名当事人向记者举报，曾在雁北监狱参与赌博，并遭遇“魔术牌”，输掉几万元不等；狱警为监狱内赌博提供便利，将“魔术牌”和赌资带入监狱内。澎湃新闻获取的两份雁北监狱内部处理通报显示，该监狱确曾发生囚犯监狱内赌博。2015年9月14日，监狱分别对两个出现囚犯聚众赌博的监区相关负责人、狱警进行了不同程度的处理。
