Not sexist: why good girl shouldn't have to learn programming? -Women, programming, code-IT information

Imagine a scene, a female engineer engineers and two other men to the meeting room to meet customers, if this is the first time we met, customer will immediately think this man is both software engineer, the woman is probably the Executive or design.

For decades, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields dominated by men, women make a difference in these areas can be old news. Community generally believes that the high number of trades for the intelligence requirements, will continue for a long time a lot of time and energy, and only men can perform the work. For female agents, everyone's first reaction is to doubt her strength.

Gender discrimination is everywhere, especially in the field of science and technology. Question-and-answer Web site even has a helpless mother abroad to friends for help, they are programmers, how to persuade her daughter to give up their old ways.

The issue has attracted a large number of replies, and top answers would agree that IT became apparent gender discrimination.

One respondent is female programmer named Kasireddy, she recalled, himself once told his father in College, future work in the field of software engineering. Is not expected, the father is not recognized and encouraged, but a worried frown, "project for women is really hard.

Kasireddy was young, fearless, and certainly is not his father's advice and studied computer science and became a software engineer. With the career accumulation, she is becoming more and more aware, my father is not a personal bias, but the objective description of social truth.

She found that programmers do the same job in the same company, women are paid less than male colleagues. Once entrepreneurs hired other companies to jump to a woman engineer, salary compared to her previous treatment did much better, than male colleagues for the same work one big chunk.

Another example is she learned from computer training course, learning about the students, girls can only apply for a junior programmer, eventually found work are a junior developer, and many boys from applying for more senior positions. Similar students, because of the difference between men and women, and beginning to pull away in the workplace.

Gender discrimination is rooted in our society. Especially East social of women, "you farming to I weaving", "woman no only is de", women thrifty only part, to has modern, although most national women by education of opportunities and male equal, but social for women of career bias never variable had, women of perfect career is family housewife, women on should in company conspiracy to a copies free poor, gravity put in family, care children cooking sweep. Men pursue career aspirations are taken for granted.

This female bias doesn't happen overnight, but thousands of years of cultural heritage of human society, even hidden social order. So when women enter the programming industry, then we need to face social stigma leads to injustice . Co-workers and managers will feel that the logical thinking ability of women inferior to men by nature, sooner or later, a career change, so it is not worth cultivating, on the women in the family have spent a lot of energy, so don't bother was entrusted with the task.

Women engineers career more bumpy than men. They face more ceiling, apart from work as hard as men, and will pay extra for the sweat to win the trust of superiors and colleagues, which is an extra cost compared to men. Girl if you want to go into this business, it's easy to become victim of social prejudice. Even if they paid as much as men, but the payoff is far inferior to men. If you want to have a place in the Board of Directors, they pay more sweat than men.

As the female programmer, although you can choose to make their own efforts to change the status quo, and colleagues about his changing attitudes, changing family and friends about his views, but is long, you will continue to meet new people, even facing a new working environment. And every time, you probably will face unfair discrimination, before you need to make great efforts to eliminate their prejudices.

Means choosing a programmer career life have to face unfair competition, as an ordinary engineer, wanted to change the environment is really hard. This inherent bias, after all, the whole society stems from thousands of years of cultural heritage, like Yu Weng move mountains, no sacrifice several generations, there will be no radical changes .

So a lot of women programmers of a certain age, nature will see itself as a social machine it is powerless to reverse the predicament for small screws, finally had to say goodbye to programming, before giving up the accumulation of select community established career path for women, career design, marketing, or administrative, or directly do housewives.

Of course, as a responsible member of society, we should try to avoid bias, prejudice, or action should be used to tell the world, women in engineering, in no way inferior to men. But as an ordinary, asking very rich but good girls to live and work, career five or even ten years of gold to make bets, really worth it?
