这个问题吸引了大量回复，并且排在前面的答案都认同IT圈存在显而易见的性别歧视。
其中有个回答者也是女程序员，叫Kasireddy，她回忆说，自己在大学期间曾经告诉父亲，未来打算从事软件工程方面的工作。出乎意料的是，父亲没有认可和鼓励，而是眉头紧锁忧心忡忡，“工程对于女人真的很难。”

另一个例子是她从计算机培训班了解到的，学习表现差不多的学生，女生只敢申请初级程序员，最终找到的工作也多是初级程序员，而许多男生申请的多是高级职位。水平差不多的学生，就因为男女之别，在职场起步阶段就拉开了距离。
性别歧视植根于我们的社会。尤其是东方社会的女性，“你耕田来我织布”，“女子无才便是德”，女性勤俭持家才本分，到了现代，虽然绝大多数国家女性受教育的机会与男性平等，但社会对于女性的职业偏见从未变过，女性的完美职业就是家庭主妇，女性就应该在公司谋一份闲差，重心放在家庭，照顾子女做饭扫地。而男性追求职业理想就属于理所应当。
这种对于女性的偏见不是一朝一夕，而是人类社会几千年的文化积淀，甚至算得上隐藏的社会秩序。所以当女性进入编程行业，就自然需要面临社会偏见导致的不公。同事和领导会觉得，女性逻辑思维能力天生不如男性，迟早转行，所以不值得培养，女性在家庭上已经耗费了大量精力，所以就别平添麻烦委以重任了。
女性的工程师生涯相比于男性更为坎坷。她们面临更多的天花板，除了在工作上需要和男性一样努力，还要付出额外汗水以赢得领导和同事的信任，这些都是相比于男性的额外成本。女孩如果要进入这个行业，很容易沦为社会偏见的牺牲品。即便和男性付出的一样多，但回报却远不如男性。如果希望也在董事会占有一席之地，她们付出的汗水也要比男性多。
作为女程序员，虽然可以选择尽自己的努力改变现状，改变同事对自己的看法，改变亲朋好友对自己的看法，但人生漫长，你会不断结识陌生人，甚至经常面临新的工作环境。而每一次，你可能都会面临不公平的歧视，需要花大力气消除他们之前的偏见。
选择了程序员职业就意味着毕生都要面对不公平的竞争环境，作为普通工程师，要想改变大环境真的很难。这种全社会固有的偏见毕竟源自几千年的文化传承，就像愚翁移山，没有好几代人的牺牲，不会有根本性的改变。
所以很多女程序员到了一定年龄，自然就会明白自己作为社会机器的小小螺丝钉根本就无力扭转困局，最终不得不告别编程，放弃之前的积累，选择社会给女性既定的职业轨迹，转行设计、市场或行政，或者是直接做起家庭主妇。
当然，作为有责任感的社会成员，我们应该尽量避免偏见、消除偏见，甚至应该用行动告诉世人，女性在工程领域丝毫不逊于男性。但是作为一名普普通通，不求大富大贵只求安居乐业的好女孩，把五年甚至十年的黄金职业生涯拿来做赌注，真的值得吗？
