兴化市公安局相关人士告诉澎湃新闻，上述事件中，由于施暴者均是未成年，警方目前对6名施暴者作出了拘留不执行的处罚，同时要求他们的家长对各自的孩子严加看管、教育。

兴化市教育局办公室王新民主任告诉澎湃新闻记者，事情发生在5月30日晚上9点左右，地点并非发生在学校内，而是在大垛镇安康小区的一个广场。
据王新民介绍，6名初二女生与周某某因平时言语上的矛盾累积，围攻殴打周某某。
“事发当天，学校领导和三个班的班主任就被告知此事。当晚9点半左右就去到现场，一直到凌晨一点多，到涉事的学生家里一一进行协调、劝导工作。”王新民告诉澎湃新闻记者，原本学校打算第二天早上再对学生进行相关处理的。第二天早上，涉事女生包括被打的周某某也已经正常去上课了。“后来因打人视频在网上流传后”，多名涉事学生“才回到家中”。
