5月18日，在波哥大市发生了针对华侨商铺的抗议活动，GRANSAN市场的部分当地商贩呼吁“购买国货”，指责华侨商人“抢占其生意”、“威胁其生存”。之后，哥执法部门根据举报，以涉嫌走私、偷税漏税查抄了部分华侨商铺，以涉嫌非法居留抓扣了14名华侨。25日，该市场约50名当地商贩再次举行抗议活动，并出现推搡华侨商铺店员、踢踹商铺卷帘门等行为。
使馆在事件发生后的第一时间即作出反应，大使、政务参赞即分别紧急约见哥外交部、移民局、海关税务局和缉私警察局等部门负责人提出严正交涉，表示强烈不满，要求对方秉公执法，并采取有效措施，切实保障我公民人身安全及合法权益。哥方表示，哥政府高度重视中方的交涉，将会秉公执法，保护中国侨民的合法权益，并加派警力保护华侨商铺。经使馆交涉，被抓扣的华侨在事发当天均获释，其中部分人“因居留身份有问题”被要求限期离境。
目前，哥外交部表示将加强内部协调，保障在哥华商合法权益。哥警方已承诺加强警力，保护华商的人身和财产安全。哥移民局、海关税务局表示将主动向华商提供相关法律、政策咨询。
使馆的工作得到了旅哥侨团负责人和绝大多数侨民的支持与配合。使馆将密切关注有关事态进展，继续做哥有关各方工作，一如既往地全力维护广大旅哥侨胞的合法权益。使馆还将为华商与当地执法机构和商人等搭建机制化的沟通平台，降低摩擦和纠纷几率。
