Samsung quit camera business? After all, Japanese is too strong-Samsung, camera-IT information
Probably the most professional photographers say Samsung is a dismissive look, but the Korea launched in 2014 to NX1 perhaps is one of the most powerful free camera on the market. It adopts the world's first 28 million megapixel back-illuminated APS-C sensor and supports up to 15fps even 4K and H.265 format video recording, a single charge can take up to 500 photos, well ahead of other competitors.
But although there is a great product, but according to recent reports, Samsung's first high-end camera may also be their swan song. So what leads to give up Samsung camera business?
The perfect camera
At first, Samsung's digital camera product line are some of the features of the camera. But the Korea manufacturers have come up with a mobile and TV the same as dealing with camera: their goal is not to compete but to dominate the market--especially anti-camera market.
NX1 release, Samsung to try a lot of new camera technologies, such as 3D, Android and mini body, market response has been mixed. But in this process, the Samsung research and development team has accumulated a wealth of experience, NX1 is a comprehensive collection of works.
Former NX30 NX1 design and there are some similarities, it published and NX30 only every 6 months, but it uses a new technology, it can be seen as the first generation product. Samsung is not the traditional camera manufacturers, so many people think their first high-end camera might not be successful. Surprise is NX1 is a very comprehensive range of cameras, powerful configuration the sheer competitiveness.
As Samsung in a professional-level camera manufacturer for the first time, NX1 once published to great acclaim, at least the media side. As to how its sales it is another thing, after all, entered the camera market is no easy task. Taking into account the extra camera inputs arising from the replacement camp, consumers will not accept overnight a new camera brands. NX1 indeed achieved its original objective: to gather positive attention for the Samsung camera market.
From favorite to be forgotten
In the past few months, NX1 quietly disappeared from major retailers. Considering that it came out less than 2 years from now, discontinued so soon but a little unexpected. Even more worrying is that Samsung has not published any subsequent models-we did not see at this year's CES show Samsung display any NX camera or lens.
Why Samsung is delaying new releases we have known, and there is a saying that they may quit the camera market.
Samsung in Australia's digital imaging department managers have left in the last month, they said, the company will reduce the market for stand-alone digital cameras focus on. A few months ago, Samsung's withdrawal from United Kingdom market.
Even more curious is that Samsung's behalf last year denied rumors about the company will exit the camera market, but since then, we did not see any camera Samsung active development of business news.
Hard nut to crack
In fact, Samsung's decision was not surprising. Professional camera market is not friendly to new competitors--Sony actually has gone through years of the rise of trying, failing, redesigned it and redesigned packaging. In addition, Samsung's gains in this market are far lower than its smart phone business. In fact, Samsung Digital Imaging section is attached to the moving parts, so even the NX1 flagship product is just a small fish in a big pond. If it's poor performance, stop research and development work is very simple and easy.
Samsung did not fully participate in the Japan International Imaging Industry Association (CIPA) statistical study, but even joined their camera sales, also can not change the weak status of the digital camera industry. Why is that Samsung will want to tap into this market?
Samsung extend their consumer imaging business was chosen because there is. Maybe watching their entry-level cameras perform poorly, Samsung may believe they can more success in the high-end market. Is Sony's own case, this Japan manufacturers ' entry-level camera sales despite the downward trend, but high-end, high margin products--that is, no anti-camera success was offset by the impact of the former.
Even if it is not a big enough market share, but Samsung NX1 can be deemed to be a show of technology, to take for their other products ability to build market confidence. For example, this can actually improve the Galaxy cell phone sales.
Samsung's real goal may not be market sales. NX1 has another objective: to attract other camera manufacturers use the Samsung sensor. This may be (maybe still is) the objectives pursued by Samsung, sensor sales profits to fund development of camera (or offset the losses). Imaging technology of Samsung's semiconductor business website page even shows a Nikon and Canon cameras (although concealed trademarks), which at least shows that they are willing to sell to other BSI APE-C sensor.
Online speculation
Samsung is a very large enterprise, involving a wide range of business. In any case, they were gambling on a flagship camera would not have any significant impact on the overall business. Samsung have to try capital, NX1 may be a product that is made out of curiosity. Who knows.
For Samsung exit on the network camera market because there are many guesses. Maybe they can't sensor supply agreements and other camera manufacturers, or they as Sony's sensor Division into a separate company is concerned by the decision, after all, the latter in global market share has been on the sensor up to 40%, there will be further growth in the future.
And the most pessimistic of a theory is, NX1 is a not doing enough and came too late. So to speak, and Samsung is not trying the camera field does not have the desired success. Samsung Vice-President Kim Jeong Wook down pronouncements in an interview in 2010, Samsung will be in 2015, "bestselling camera brand." Until today, Samsung ranking did not change anything in the camera market, remained after the Canon, Nikon and Sony.
Too soon to say goodbye
NX1 is a bold attempt, although the stakes are high, but its quality is worthy of recognition. Many camera manufacturers have had to reinvent itself to remain competitive, whether it is Sony, Fuji or Olympus, they must open up their place. And we can't help but think that Samsung may be in the process of, but ultimately failed.
But even if we may not buy Samsung cameras in the future, it doesn't mean it will not be on the market by its imaging products. Samsung proved himself to be a powerful sensor manufacturers, they by virtue of NX1 or accumulated reputation also contribute to their future development. In the future, there should be more manufacturers to choose the Samsung APS-C sensor.
Even if Samsung does give up consumer camera business, this does not mean NX1 is a failure of the product. It is a bold experiment, one almost could shake the camera industry Foundation's flagship product. Samsung on the camera body to make every effort, although sales had not been successful, it's still on the market one of the most impressive and unique one of the cameras. We are deeply sorry for it to leave.
