据了解，这对爷孙分别是75岁的爷爷郭福寿和22岁的孙子郭阳升。老人曾经是一位赤脚医生，并在1985年成为一名乡村医生，本来60岁退休，但是他主动申请工作到70岁。失去行医资格后他觉得还不够，刚退休时甚至“闲”出病来。
郭福寿有继续为病人看病的愿望，他表示要学习药王爷的精神，活到一百零一岁干到一百零一岁。今天的这场传统医学确有专长考试，就是为通过师承方式学习传统医学或者经多年传统医学临床实践医术确有专长，但不具备医学专业学历的人员，获得医师资格的考试。
