记者通过核实，陈德均喝汽油这事，在双河村，人人皆知，但老人已经于2015年初去世，视频拍摄时间，是在老人生前第3年。
村民们说，1米5高的老人生前看上去很瘦弱，但思维清晰。老人左手拿着装有汽油的矿泉水瓶，右手拿着小杯，一口一口慢慢悠悠喝汽油的场景，村民们常看到。
“由于常年喝汽油，身上一股汽油味，老远都能闻到。”村民陈爱文说，老人常手提起塑料壶，每隔一段时间就会到山脚的加油站买。跟很多酒不离身的好酒者一样，陈德均身上，常年是油不离身。
为啥喝上汽油？村民们说，1969年，陈德均突然生病，老感觉心慌气闷，全身没力，还常年咳嗽。辗转当地多家医院，始终没查出个缘由。
