:作为相关故事的制作人,他给这部电影打几分?

James Waugh: 这是一个很难回答的问题,之所以难是因为我和我的同事为这部电影付出了太多心血,它就像我的孩子,我怎么可能给自己的孩子打分呢?

记者:您本人参与电影的工作时间有多久?

James Waugh:电影拍摄是三年半,但我写相关的稿子是从五年前开始的。

记者:游戏只需满足玩家需求,电影还需考虑大众口味。为了让那些没有玩过游戏的观众也能喜爱这部电影,你们做了哪些努力?

James Waugh:非魔兽玩家当然也在我们的考虑之中。如何既能满足玩家的需求,又能让对游戏毫无所知的观众了解魔兽庞大的故事是一个精妙的平衡。这是一个巨大的挑战,之前所有改编电影都遇到过,到目前为止还没有一个完全成型的可以复制的成功模式。我们只能不断做大量决定来取舍。其中第一个,也是最重要的决定是我们要拍的是一个电影的连续剧情,而不是我们原有游戏剧情的延伸。这意味着创作一条相对独立的电影故事线。

做出这个决定是因为我们发现原来在游戏中每讲一个故事都是为了一个战斗场景做准备,而在电影里这么做显然行不通。我们要做的是把我们在游戏中讲故事的灵魂提取出来放在电影当中。在保证人物形象高还原度的情况下,对人物的故事进行了一定的加工与修改。

记者:为什么选择了现在我们看到的这段故事?很多玩家,特别是中国玩家,表示更想看到阿尔萨斯黑化成巫妖王的故事。

James Waugh:如果我们选择《魔兽世界》来改编电影的话,最大的问题在于我们不知道应该将摄像机放在哪里。因为WOW中有上千个故事,到底应该选择哪一个种族或者人物开始呢?如果你是一个暗夜精灵玩家,看到整个电影都是亡灵或者牛头人的故事你会很难受。而且WOW的世界观有太多定义需要解释,非玩家将很难跟上电影的节奏。

其实一开始,是传奇影业主动找到我们,问我们想拍什么样的电影。最后我们给出的答案是,魔兽系列的核心是红色对战蓝色,也即联盟对战部落,回到最初,就是人类对战兽人。记得war1的封面就是人兽对战,也是后来所有魔兽故事的起源。

以后如果我们拍更多电影的话(续集?),我们会知道故事是怎样发展,其他种族是怎样融入到我们体系当中。就好比在游戏中我们也在不断加入新种族,像暗夜精灵就是在war3里才出现的。将来我们有机会的话,一定会拍阿尔萨斯的故事。

阿尔萨斯在游戏迷中的人气毋庸置疑

记者:电影是遗憾的艺术。对于《魔兽》,你是否也有一些遗憾呢?

James Waugh:这也是一个比较难的问题。我希望能看到我的想法都变成现实,当然这是所有创作人员都会遇到的问题。

如果一定要说遗憾的话,我担心有些时候,我们的电影太想要去满足一些“Master”(这里是指职业影评人或者影视圈资深专业人士?)的理想和需求。但说实话我觉得我们也满足了,我相信他们也会喜欢这部电影,我为它而骄傲。

记者:在中国有个笑话,说暴雪是一个电影公司,九年做CG,一年做游戏。想问您是否负责游戏CG的制作?

James Waugh:对,所有游戏CG都要先由我写好剧本,然后再开始制作,包括《守望先锋》的动画。

记者:既然说到《守望先锋》,那么接下来会不会有《守望先锋》或者其他游戏的电影?

James Waugh:希望能有这个机会。我个人目前最喜欢玩的游戏就是《守望先锋》,对它的世界观创造很满意。我们现在有很多大的计划,关于守望的世界观如何转换成电影。相信你已经发现我们出了守望的官方漫画,以及小的短片。我们后续会推进守望电影的进程。而暴雪的其他游戏,包括暗黑、星际等等,我们也都希望推进。这些故事都值得被搬上银幕。

记者:你如何向非游戏玩家推荐《魔兽》?

James Waugh:如果你喜欢漫威的超级英雄系列电影的话,那你就会喜欢《魔兽》。我们这部电影也是非常让人兴奋,同时充满趣味,能把你带入一个崭新的世界。

记者:那你觉得魔兽电影和《权力的游戏》有什么差别?

James Waugh:魔兽的宇宙更大,角色更多,是更倾向于塑造英雄的电影。而《权力的游戏》整体比较阴暗,有很多尔虞我诈,贪婪暴力的成分,这也是制作者想要追求的效果。魔兽里的角色性格也罢,故事情节也罢,更像《霍比特人》,《指环王》这样充满传奇色彩的电影。如果一定要比较的话,我更愿意把魔兽归类到漫威电影的类别中去。

记者:会不会有魔兽的电视剧?因为魔兽的故事太庞大,电影感觉承载不下。

James Waugh:那意味着很大的工作量……(可是我们很想要啊——记者补充)我们都希望《魔兽》电影能够成功,如果超级成功的话,为什么不呢?所有事情都有可能。
