6月12日，多名微博网友爆料称，当日下午上海浦东机场T2航站楼疑似发生爆炸。
当日下午3时36分，上海机场集团向澎湃新闻记者确认称：当日下午约2时20分，浦东机场T2航站楼办票大厅C岛值机柜台发生疑似自制爆炸物爆炸事件，事件造成多名旅客受伤，送医救治。目前公安已控制事发区域。浦东机场其他航班运行未受影响。澎湃新闻记者正赶往现场。
澎湃新闻记者从浦东新区人民医院获悉，目前医院共收治4名伤员。其中，一名30岁左右的男子为重伤，下午2时59分由120送到医院，伤势为左侧颈浅静脉横断，右侧颈浅静脉离断，气管于环状软骨上方2/3离断，左侧颈内静脉损伤。院方表示，该伤势为刀割伤引起。院方在接报相关情况后迅速启动应急措施，由院长亲自组织，启动紧急预案，组织外科、耳鼻喉科、急诊科、麻醉科近10多名医生全力抢救。另外伤员为2男1女，分别为头部、手部、腿部、臀部等外伤，均在医院留观。
另据新华社中国网事报道，事故发生在T2航站楼的值机柜台前，有人员携带的烟花爆竹发生燃爆。有人员在事件中受轻伤，并很快被送医救治。
微博网友“多拉A梨”发布的微博显示，“浦东机场国际C区办票有人疑似丢啤酒瓶+鞭炮”。多名在现场的网友则称，听到“砰”的一声巨响。
微博网友“谁都不知道我是LY”称，自己当时在现场，下午2时45分左右，他正在某航空公司值机柜台办理托运手续，突然疑似爆炸事件发生。“柜台中间，很大一声，开始冒烟，接着大家都是往旁边跑开，马上很多警察就过来了。现在应该没事了。”据其描述，疑似爆炸声音极其响，“像是那种在身边开炮的声音，因为离得很近所以声音特别真切。”
在事发现场，澎湃新闻记者遇到游客沈先生。他和其他18名游客同属同城旅游网的一个旅行团，他们在C区29号泰国航空值机口办理手续时目击了这起爆炸事件。
据沈先生回忆，事发时他和妻子、女儿正在排队等办理待托运行李手续，突然女儿看到浓烟从值机柜台旁冒出，随后有两个闪着火花的玻璃瓶滚到排队旅客的脚边，此时已有人快速离开，几秒钟后一个玻璃瓶爆炸，所有人都开始逃跑，有一人倒地。她女儿则称，一共有三个玻璃瓶滚到脚边，有两次爆炸声音，第一次和第二次爆炸时间相隔不久。
沈先生称，有两位老人和他同在一个旅行团，事发时他们都在等待办理托运，在第一次爆炸后这两位老人（一男一女）因拍照被炸伤。除此以外，在泰国航空值机口旁边的菲律宾航空排队值机的旅客，也因玻璃瓶爆炸而被碎玻璃擦伤，目前有一名伤者处理完伤口后正在接受警方调查。
沈先生表示，他们一家已经决定取消出游计划，目前其所在旅行团所有旅客的行李仍然在C区事发地点处。
据网友发布的照片显示，一名男子躺在担架上，一名护士在旁高举着盐水瓶。现场有大量民警值守。据上海观察报道，目前浦东机场已迅速提升安检等级，对候机楼内的安全问题加强防控，加强对旅客进入候机楼时随身行李，以及人身的检查，已基本做到逢包必检。
澎湃新闻记者查询获悉，截至下午3时23分，上海浦东机场部分航班延误，出港准点率为24.65%，进港准点率为53.43%。
