2016年6月14日，距离上海迪士尼度假区开幕还有两天时间，迪士尼两座度假酒店正式对媒体开放。
两座酒店分别是面向中高端客户的“玩具总动员酒店”和面向高端客户群体的“上海迪士尼乐园酒店”。前者拥有800间客房，主打玩具总动员形象，充满童趣；后者拥有420间客房，以优雅别致为主要特点，在这里可以找到米奇、米妮及米老鼠动画片中人物合影。
无论是玩具总动员酒店还是迪士尼乐园酒店，两者在硬件设施方面都称不上“豪华”，但迪士尼主打的“情怀”却体现得非常充分。比如，玩具总动员酒店的电梯每接上一名乘客就会发出由伍迪警长配音的“报站声”，酒店客房用具、一次性用品等均为玩具总动员的蓝绿主色调或卡通形象，酒店随处都能看到准备与游客合影的伍迪警长、巴斯光年等卡通人物；在迪士尼度假酒店，大堂正门口雕塑就是金色的米奇、米妮等卡通人物形象，酒店餐厅使用了《美女与野兽》影片中的厨房场景，就连所用灯具都与电影中出现的相仿。
与其他酒店最大的不同是，两座迪士尼酒店拥有很多“演职人员”，他们或者身穿华服扮演公主和卡通人物，或者戴着特色手套微笑着向游客招手。
玩具总动员酒店运营高级经理赵韵说，为了给游客一种“沉浸式的体验”，酒店内所有员工和演职人员都经过特殊培训，他们必须熟知迪士尼动画片的剧情、人物，并运用专门制作的道具和服装向游客展示自己。该酒店内电梯语音的配音，即为《玩具总动员》电影配音演员原声配音，而酒店餐厅外飞扬的风筝，全部由山东潍坊风筝工匠手工制作并手绘图案。
“微笑”是两座主题酒店共同的特点。两座酒店内的每一件陈列品和器具，都有自己独特的“故事”，它们或者取自迪士尼电影中的某个场景，或者使用了迪士尼电影中的某种色调和风格，“你在走进大堂’哇’了一大声后，你会发现，之后所见到的每一处细节都令人惊叹，原来这是某某影片中的某某场景啊。”
