授课途中遭遇车祸罹难
武汉大学18日下午对外交学院原院长吴建民车祸事件进行了通报。通报称，18日凌晨4时许，吴建民在去往武大授课途中遭遇车祸，车祸造成吴建民不幸罹难。
发生车祸前，中国外交部政策咨询委员会委员、外交学院原院长吴建民一行2人乘坐MU2454航班从北京飞抵武汉（该航班比预定时间晚点约2小时抵达武汉天河机场），计划于18日上午给武汉大学承办的中小企业领军人才培训班学员授课。
事件发生后，武汉大学成立由校长李晓红为组长的应急处置小组，配合救治受伤人员，派出专人看望慰问遇难者家属，协助公安机关开展事故原因调查。学校方面对此深表痛心，对不幸罹难的逝者表示沉痛哀悼。
商务车事故中被撞凹陷
武汉交警方面表示，吴建民搭乘的车辆沿梨园地下通道行驶至南出口处时，车头撞击路中隔离花坛，发生单方交通事故。网友发布的车祸现场图片显示，吴建民乘坐的车辆为一辆深色商务车，和隔离花坛相撞后车头凹陷，但并未翻车。
根据武汉大学方面的通报，事发时吴建民一行与3名接机人员共5人乘车赴驻地。4时许，车辆行至武汉梨园隧道出口处发生交通事故，造成吴建民、武汉大学信息管理学院教师朱晓驰不幸罹难，3人受伤。伤者已被送往医院接受治疗，暂无生命危险。
外交学院师生自发悼念
昨晚8时许，在外交学院（沙河校区）陈毅广场，数百名师生自发悼念外交学院前院长吴建民。参加悼念活动的同学都换上了黑白衣服，手捧蜡烛低头默哀，随后逐一向吴建民遗像前敬献菊花，现场一片静穆。献花活动后，吴建民生前在外交学院的同事、学生纷纷发言表达哀思，追忆吴建民生平。
作为吴建民的“关门弟子”，现就职于外交学院、刚刚博士毕业的冯老师专门带着孩子来参加了追悼活动。“吴院长去世的消息被证实后，我真的不敢相信，也不敢看微信朋友圈，上个月我毕业答辩的时候吴院长还在的。”冯老师告诉北青报记者：“孩子一直想再见见吴院长，和吴院长聊聊，现在没办法实现了。这次专门带着孩子来，算是送吴院长最后一程吧”。据冯老师回忆，吴建民生前对学生十分和蔼，“院长给我们上课的时候都是问答式的，我印象很深”。
外交学院校报前任主编、外交学院学生小钟还特意将以前校报对吴建民的专访文章带到了追悼活动现场。据小钟介绍，在吴建民担任院长期间的2003年至2006年，校报每年都会去给他做一篇专访，“无论是讲话方式还是做事方式，吴院长都很有亲和力，没有架子。”据小钟回忆，在卸任院长职务后，吴建民也时常会来学校给同学们做讲座，分享他的外交理念和经验。
