　　希尔表示，他原本期望英国在推动欧洲“开放、灵活、竞争、自由贸易”等方面发挥作用，但英国民众做出了“脱离欧盟”的选择，他对公投结果表示遗憾。

　　曾任英国上议院领袖的希尔说，他在2014年底赴欧盟委员会就职前，面临反对英国加入欧元区等种种疑欧声音，但他秉持英国的欧盟成员国身份对英国的经济、世界地位有利的理念。但眼下他无法像“什么事都没发生一样”继续在欧盟委员会任职。

　　欧盟委员会主席容克对希尔的辞职决定表示遗憾。容克说，在组建本届欧盟委员会时，让希尔担任金融委员，表明了欧盟对英国欧盟成员国身份的信心。令人遗憾的是，现在局面发生了变化。
