2014年4月20日，根据群众举报，中国公安部门对快播网上传播淫秽色情信息一案立案调查，并抓捕多名犯罪嫌疑人。
一个月后，深圳市市场监督管理局（下称深圳市监局）前往快播，送达了《行政处罚听证告知书》，拟对其处以2.6亿元的版权侵权罚款。后来外界才弄清楚，这张罚单是缘于腾讯对快播涉嫌侵犯其信息网络传播权的举报。
快播员工起初对快播涉黄案的影响，并没有太深切的感受。
“2014年4月20日，警方到快播进行有关刑事案的调查，当时公司的账户立马就被冻结了，但整个公司还是在正常运作的。而在之后的大概两个月里，警方每个月也都派人过来，对公司的银行账户进行临时解冻，给我们员工发工资。”前述快播前员工这么告诉记者。
