眼下，调查人员需要花费数天，甚至是数周才能找到黑匣子，如果事故发生在海洋或偏远地区的话。
例如两年前失踪的马来西亚航空中客车机MH370，其黑匣子直到现在也没有找到。
尽管传统的黑匣子携带信号灯，可帮助工作人员更容易找到，但是其电量仅能维持一个月的时间。
据Inmarsat公司透露，空中客车将在旗下A320和A330客机中安装这一名为SwiftBroadband-Safety的服务。
Inmarsat的安全和运营服务高级副总裁Mary McMillan表示，这套系统将帮助提升飞行的安全性，减少事故的发生。这套系统能够发送各种实时信息，例如飞机的坐标、驾驶舱通信、机内状况、飞行员的动作以及天气和机身传感器中的信息等等。
McMillan还透露，如果发现返回的数据出现异常，该技术还允许地面人员对飞行进行干涉，从而避免事故发生。
