武汉市水务局2013年12月的一篇文章显示，2007年，湖北省利用世界银行贷款长江干堤加固项目武汉市连江支流干堤府澴河、举水堤整险加固工程。
武汉市水务局介绍，世行项目加固的一批重要支堤包括东西湖堤、童家湖堤、民生堤、举水东堤和举水西堤，使之达到防御“30—50年一遇洪水”标准，防止长江、汉江洪水从支流形成“背后包抄”。
该工程于2007年3月28日正式开工，于2009年5月完工。同时，文章称：“2012年10月19日完成项目的单位工程验收工作，单位工程全部合格。”

《长江日报》2010年7月19日的一篇文章显示，武汉市长江支流干堤府澴河、举水堤整险加固工程属长江干堤整险加固的延伸项目，是继武汉市江堤整险加固工程后又一项重大工程。该项目加固总长度为123.47公里（其中府环河66.29公里、举水堤57.18公里），工程投资7.08亿元。该文章评价称：“随着世行贷款连江支堤整险加固工程完工，武汉市整体防洪保护圈更加完善。”
此外，2014年《武汉晚报》报道武汉水利堤防中心主任唐某涉受贿罪受审消息时，引用起诉书的内容称，在2005年至2013年间，经唐某之手涉及受贿的工程总造价已经接近10亿元，其中，举水河举西堤加固工程，工程造价为3186万；连江支堤举水西堤加固工程，造价为4600万……该报道引用公诉机关指控称，这些工程中有的是明显违规，比如给招标单位打招呼操纵结果。也有很多工程是严格经过招投标程序选出中标方的。
据该报道，唐某被起诉受贿96笔共计151.5万元，在庭上他对绝大部分基本认可，但对其中100万元受贿金额提出异议。
而原武汉市水务局原巡视员刘东才也被指控牵涉进举水堤整险加固工程中，2001年至2012年期间，刘东才利用担任武汉市水务局副局长、巡视员。《长江商报》2014年的报道称，根据公诉机关指控，2008年，他曾收受湖南省建筑工程集团总公司武汉分公司副总经理沈某10万元，助其在武汉市连江支堤举水河东堤加固工程施工过程免受地方势力干扰，并向省世行办申请雪灾补偿款等770万元。今年6月19日，刘东才因受贿559万被判有期徒刑14年。
