据悉，前期66号公路的升级仅限于一段公路，Solar Roadways将是这项计划的合作商。该公司旗下有一款特别设计的太阳能面板，该面板不但可以承受汽车的重量，还搭载有内置LED灯。吸收太阳能后它就可以自行点亮，将66号公路装点成星光大道。

眼下，Solar Roadways已经拿下了美国交通部的订单，不过，想把这接近4000公里的路全铺完，短时间内肯定不太现实。密苏里州交通局称，今年年底，66号公路欢迎中心路段的铺设工作就将正式开始。

如果这部分公路的实验铺设得到成功，想必未来该计划就能得到大范围扩展，66号公路会变得比往常更加美丽。
