郑留随后叙述了自己的被骗经过：自己偶然在网上加了一个群，群里面有人说要找人收购手机，他卖出后所得利润会给收手机的人分一部分。郑留有点动心，想着说不定还能赚点钱贴补一下家里，就想试试看。
第一笔生意，对方很爽快地用支付宝给他结了4万元货款，郑留说自己从中赚了几千元，这时对方还表示他们需要更大量的手机，货款到时候会一起打给他。因为“尝到甜头”，郑留表示自己随后不仅把赚来的钱投入，甚至还跟别人借了15万元拿来收手机，但是当他将收到的手机发给对方后，就再也联系不上那个人了，他这才意识到自己应该是被骗了。
听了郑留的叙述，民警认为或许通过两人的支付宝账户往来查到对方信息，可是郑留的支付宝中却并没有他说的打款记录，问他原因也支支吾吾的说不清楚。随后面对警方提出的地址、原始货款等很多问题，郑留甚至前言不搭后语，有不少矛盾的地方，到后来基本面对任何问题，他都只有一个答案——“反正我是被骗了”。
