远望7号船是由中国自主设计研制、具有国际先进水平的大型航天远洋测量船。它的入列，标志着中国航天远洋测控事业发展迎来新机遇新跨越，航天远洋测控能力将实现新提高新突破，对中国航天测控网建设具有重大意义。
远望7号船于2012年9月20日批准立项，2014年10月10日在江南造船集团公司开工建造，历时18个月建成。这艘船长220多米、高40余米，满载排水量近3万吨，可抗12级台风，自给力100天，能在太平洋、印度洋、大西洋南北纬60度以内的海域执行任务，同时满足特定航道的航行要求。
远望7号船由船舶通用平台和航天测控通信装备两大部分组成，集当今船舶建造、航天测控、航海气象、船舶动力等领域的最新技术于一身。
远望7号船建设以航天发射任务需求为牵引，充分继承以往测量船建设使用经验，严格按照最新国际规范、公约要求，依据国标和行业标准，遵循“适用、可靠、先进、经济”的原则，采用了多项新技术、新工艺。
远望7号船是首批按照安全返港要求进行设计的船舶，安全性能得到大幅提升；全新升级的测控系统将推动航天远洋测控能力实现新突破；动力系统的升级和舱室结构得到进一步优化；气调保鲜库、机械化码头装卸系统等使生活保障更加有力。
据悉，今年下半年，这艘船将出航执行神舟十一号载人航天飞行等航天发射海上测控任务。
