公安机关综合调查访问、现场勘查、尸体检验鉴定意见等，确认因现场清查不到位，龚雪辉系在房屋拆除过程中房屋垮塌导致死亡。

7 月11日下午，经长沙市委常委会议研究决定，对相关责任单位和个人依法依纪严肃处理。责令岳麓区委、区政府向长沙市委、市政府作出深刻检讨，并在全市通 报。对岳麓区区委书记周志凯，由省纪委给予其党内严重警告处分；对岳麓区区委副书记、区长刘汇，由省监察厅给予其行政记大过处分；对联点观沙岭街道的岳麓 区委常委、区纪委书记贺赤兴给予党内警告处分，对主管征地征收、安全生产监督管理工作的岳麓区委常委、副区长蔡锋给予行政记过处分，对观沙岭街道集体土地 拆迁指挥部指挥长、观沙岭街道联点领导、岳麓区人大常委会副主任曾跃平给予行政记大过处分，主管城中村改造的岳麓区副区长李舜给予行政记过处分。
此 外，观沙岭街道党工委书记厉军，党工委副书记、办事处主任陈建新，党工委副书记、政协联络处主任任亿文，办事处副主任潘多，办事处工作人员朱建群，茶子山 村党支部书记万智、村委会主任段庆等7人涉嫌渎职（玩忽职守、滥用职权）犯罪已被检察机关立案侦查，并在司法机关结论作出后给予党纪政纪处分。街道、村其 他相关责任人员7人被处以留党察看、行政撤职处分等党纪政纪处分。樊梓祥等4名现场工作人员涉嫌过失致人死亡被公安机关采取刑事强制措施。岳麓公安分局副 局长刘一斌、观沙岭派出所所长刘继红、观沙岭派出所中队指导员叶新友履职不到位，分别给予行政警告、行政警告、行政记过处分。

西哲有云：人是万物的尺度。由此而言，世界上没有什么价值能够与人的生命相等值。而此事件的悲剧性，从根本上来说，其因由也应归咎于对生命的疏忽与不珍惜。
如 果对生命有足够的敬畏，就不会出现“疏忽大意而致人死亡”。先不说强拆非法，既然说强拆有预案，为何人的生命安全没有在预案里得到周全？调查认定，这是起 “责任事故”，那么就当有人为眼里只有“强拆”而忽视人命负责。此次处理结果可以算是严厉迅疾，也只有严肃法纪，方能惩前毖后，不至于悲剧再度发生。
而 虽然说“死者为大”，但失去生命的不可承受之重，也让龚雪辉以生命为代价警示人们：以生命抗争的激烈方式并不可取。君子不立于危墙，如果坚信有理，就不怕 走遍天下没有说理的地方——如果能珍惜、爱护好自己的生命，相信龚雪辉一定也能以坚强活着的姿态讨回公道。如今，严肃法纪的处理，也是在从法治的立场，给 民众的法治信仰重新树立起信心。
