郭台铭回忆称，鸿海于1974年开始创业，当时正值台湾推动进口取代的经济成长时代，鸿海就从电视机旋钮开始做起，之后逐步扩展到精密模具、精密机械、电子、光学、材料、半导体以及感光元件等领域。
谈到资金问题时，郭台铭表示，自己创业的第一笔资金是母亲通过标会集来的，因为那时候的创业环境与现在完全不一样，还有票据法的限制，中小企业要取得、调度资金都非常困难。
郭台铭称，后来将公司搬到土城，也是准备万一票据没过被送进土城看守所，也可以就近与公司客户继续洽谈生意。
而现在的创业环境与之前完全不同，年轻人建立创业团队融资方式很多，例如可以通过天使投资等方式，凭借创业计划书即有机会拿到上千万元资金，另外，资金本身的利息也很便宜，钱不是关键核心的问题。
郭台铭认为，年轻人创业最关键的还是要看有没有创业家的精神，要看其背后有没有决心，现在社会上缺的是有决心有毅力、不成功绝不罢休的年轻创业家，缺的是下定决心的“浴火凤凰”。
创业这条路不平坦，要有决心走下去，成功关键在人，有创业念头，也要有核心竞争力，要有坚强的信念，面临过去无法想象、接踵而来的问题。
他说，在创业过程中，会面对一连串难以预料的困难，包括法律诉讼在内，也可能会牵涉到既得利益者的利益。
郭台铭表示，到现在为止，他每天都至少工作16个小时，他也在找人才、找接班人，他要找的是那种打死不退的，希望年轻人和新创团队都要有这种精神，任何项目交到手里，就可以成功。
