这一次投资前，网易云音乐归网易全资所有，若完成这一轮融资，网易云音乐将向外释放12%到15%的股权，网易依然为网易云音乐的最大股东，占股比例超过85%。
网易云音乐这一轮融资的主要用途有几点：
1，向产业链上游进军，购买版权，特别是独家版权，形成一定进攻态势，建立护城河优势；
2，利用现有的海量产品用户及大数据优势，扶持和签约独立工作室和艺人，自创版权，从而得以在前期以低价购入长期独家版权；
3，未来在一二三线城市的学生、白领及中产阶层大力进行市场推广，依靠现有的行业口碑，和大规模的市场化营销，将产品推进到行业前三；
4，扩充和补强团队，以满足项目以独立公司实体运营的要求；
5，积极在智能硬件领域进行探索，掌握音乐类产品的硬件入口。
根据介绍，网易云音乐已和全球三大唱片公司在内超过135家版权方有合作，目前曲库有580万首歌，整体覆盖率超90%，还拥有瑞鸣产品、无限星空等28家版权方的独家版权。
另据一位投资圈人士对雷帝网爆料，网易云音乐在2015年收入增长很快，到Q4时盈利达到1600万，但预计在2016年会亏损3300万元，网易云音乐亏损的原因是版权投入加大。

另据雷帝网了解，当前在线音乐的版权正对网易云音乐造成很大影响。比如，网易云音乐的很多歌曲已从曲库中消失，歌曲不能下载播放，此外，用户已不能对音乐进行标星收听。
一位用户表示，当初因为QQ音乐很多歌曲没有才转向网易云音乐。随着如今网易云音乐很多功能没以前便捷，其又进行了转移。另一位用户则坦言，网易云音乐没有以前那么好用。
据一位投资行业人士透露，已有红杉资本、复星等对网易云音乐感兴趣。不过，也有不少人担忧网易云音乐的版权问题，称若版权竞争不过腾讯音乐集团，可能就会造成大量用户流失。
