新疆塔城的魏德友老人为国戍边半个世纪，他的故事在网上传播后，十几天时间里阅读量就超过1500万人次。
这条5公里长的中哈边境线，76岁的魏德友巡守了52年。1964年，魏德友从北京军区转业，来到新疆生产建设兵团第九师161团兵二连屯垦戍边。后来，老家山东有个姑娘相中了他，跟着他嫁到了新疆。
老魏一路追一路哄，答应再待个三四年就回老家，可没想到一“哄”就是十来年。
1981年兵二连开始解散，所属地交给塔城地区裕民县管辖，百余户人家陆续撤离到离县城更近的连队，老魏却坚持要留下来守边放牧。
从1984年开始，兵二连就只剩下老魏一家在这里，有一回，两口子还跟狼正面对上了。
可即便是这样的惊险，老两口还是坚持在边境放羊为生，义务巡边。
这条边境线上冬天最低温只有零下四十几度，经常遭遇风吹雪，自然环境十分恶劣，这让魏德友两口子的身体也落下了病。
孩子们给他们在附近县城买了楼房，想让爸妈晚年享享福，可他们说什么也不走。
这些年，老魏堵截了数万头越境牲畜，劝返了临界人员上千人，管控区内没发生一起涉外事件。如今边境线上虽然都建起了围栏，装上了电子探头，可即使在我们采访时，老魏都还是时刻保持着警惕。
一辈子呆在边境线上，老魏没给妻子买过啥像样的东西，妻子能给老魏的也就是缝上这几十双布鞋。老伴儿觉得，结婚49年，承诺了相伴到老，也就不再走了。老魏觉得，承诺了在这里守一辈子，也就不再变了。
