  8月16日凌晨,世界首颗量子科学实验卫星“墨子号”在酒泉发射升空,首次实现了卫星和地面之间的量子通信。


  这一声巨响的意义有多大呢?量子通信是迄今为止唯一被严格证明无条件安全的通信方式,在金融、军事、政务等方面都有应用。美国、日本都瞄准了这一前沿领域,并启动了相关计划。


  “墨子号”的成功发射和运行,不但带火了“量子通信”这个偏门儿概念,更炸出了一个人人是大牛的超级天团。


  首席科学家潘建伟:41岁当院士


  自上世纪90年代以来,在量子信息研究领域,已有多个“世界首次”出自中国,背后也都有着量子通信首席科学家潘建伟及其团队的刻苦钻研与辛勤付出。



  与人们印象中“须发斑白”的首席科学家不同,潘建伟是个年轻的70后。在他46年的人生中,量子占据了近乎2/3的时光。


  潘建伟从小顽皮,幸运的是他的家庭非常开明。他曾对别人说,从小到大,父母几乎不给他设限,总是鼓励他做自己感兴趣的事。


  1987年,潘建伟考入中国科学技术大学近代物理系。当时,他最爱的书是《爱因斯坦文集》,因为那些散文让他感受到物理的美感,“从简单的事实后面可以找到一个规律”。也是在那时,他开始与量子结缘。


  1995年硕士毕业后,潘建伟走上了科研的“快车道”。41 岁当选“最年轻院士”,42 岁获得国际量子通信大奖,45 岁成为国家自然科学奖一等奖最年轻的第一完成人,当选中国科大常务副校长。


  从2000年左右,潘建伟就陆续把学生送到多个实验室,做出了国际上仅靠单一团队无法做出的成绩。今年1月,团队凭借“多光子纠缠及干涉度量”摘取了国家自然科学奖唯一的一等奖。由于评选极其严格,在过去15年中,这个奖项空缺了9年。


  如此年轻便做出了这样的科研成果,这个团队被媒体赠予了一个新的称呼——“中国男孩”。


  潘建伟曾多次提及1996年留学奥地利时的一个细节。导师塞林格教授初次见到26岁的他,就发问道:你的梦想是什么?当时,潘斩钉截铁地回答说:“要在中国建一个世界一流的量子物理实验室”。


  20年的时间过去了,潘建伟用实际行动践行着当下的热词:不忘初心。


  80后教授陈宇翱:既定规则的颠覆者



  和“70后”院士一同玩转量子通信的,还有一位“80后”教授陈宇翱。出生于1981年的陈宇翱,一直用绳命冲破藩篱,颠覆既定规则。


  用陈宇翱的话来说,自打初中时第一次见到物理课本,他就一见钟情,梦想考大学、学物理。这个出生于江苏启东的农村娃天资聪明,学习成绩一直名列前茅。但父母却不理会这些:初中毕业时,父母希望他报考中专,尽早解决户口;高中时,父母又催促他选择医学,保障家人的健康。


  虽然年少,但此时的陈宇翱就已经表现出了过人的魄力和勇气:自己认定的事情,谁也改变不了。


  1998年,陈宇翱在国际中学生物理奥赛中获第一名,被保送进入中国科学技术大学少年班,硕士期间,他的导师正是潘建伟。2004年,陈宇翱在潘建伟的建议下,跟随导师去德国海德堡大学天文与物理系攻读博士学位, 师徒二人在国际上最前沿的冷原子量子实验室又开始了长达4年的合作。


  2011年是陈宇翱在德国留学的第七个年头,按照德国对科学家的优惠政策,陈宇翱还有半年就可取得德国国籍。但他遵守着当年对导师潘建伟的承诺,在32岁时毅然回国,入选首批“青年千人计划”,全职担任中国科大教授。不久之后,他便同事合作在国际上首次成功制备出八光子薛定谔猫态,引起国际学界关注。

  量子鬼才陆朝阳:与陈吉宁同列科学之星


  在爱因斯坦认为是“鬼魅般”的领域,34岁的陆朝阳多次刷新世界纪录,在学术界有“量子鬼才”之称。

  中科大物理本科毕业后,他原本将被保送到微电子专业读研究生。一次偶然的同乡聚会,让他认识了刚回国的潘建伟。一番交谈之后,陆朝阳受到潘老师科学理念和魄力的感召,修改了志愿,转入量子领域。后来,他又在剑桥大学获得了博士学位。


  陆朝阳重点研究的领域是“量子纠缠”,它被认为是“最令人费解的量子力学预测”。


  攻读硕士学位期间,陆朝阳就以第一作者身份,在国际上首次实验了对六光子(注:光子也是一种量子)纠缠的操纵。此后,他又超越了这一纪录,打破了国际学术界18年以来只能传输基本粒子单一自由度的局限。这是历史上中国本土完成的科学成果,首次入选英国物理学会评选的国际物理学年度突破榜首。


  正是这些成就,让维也纳量子科学与技术中心的量子物理学家安东·蔡林格将陆朝阳称作“光子纠缠鬼才”。


  今年6月,闻名世界的英国《自然》杂志推荐了10位中国科学之星,陆朝阳位列其中,和他一同入选的还有环保部部长陈吉宁。


  邓友金:“毁约”投奔潘建伟团队

  中科大的教授、博士生导师邓友金,是团队中的另一位大牛,他尤擅量子理论。为了投奔潘建伟团队,邓友金不惜“毁约”。


  2005年,还在荷兰戴尔福特科技大学材料系做博士后的他去海德堡大学访问。期间,他对量子信息产生了浓厚的兴趣,还特意找到在海德堡大学的潘建伟交流。


  潘建伟一听邓友金的学术背景,立刻来了兴趣:物理专业的本科生,理论物理学的硕士生,博士学的是统计物理。统计物理学科视野宽广,正好是这个小组欠缺的一个“角色”。


  当时,邓友金已经答应到纽约大学做博士后研究,于是潘建伟向他发出“两年后再见”的邀请。2007年4月,邓友金提前结束与纽约大学的合同,来到海德堡大学潘建伟小组,与另一位团队成员陈帅搭档做量子存储。
