赛场实现分区域温控
杨奇勇介绍，水立方现有比赛大厅的室内环境适于游泳赛事，但不能较好满足冰壶比赛各区域温度规定。为此，水立方相关部门与该领域专家及高校科研院所开展论证，通过模拟分析，升级空调系统实现分区控温，达到冰面温度-8.5℃，冰面以上1.5米高度10℃以上，看台温度16-18℃的需求，使运动员及观众处于舒适的赛事环境中。同时，增加除湿功能，调整人工照明模式，加设吸声幕布，确保冰面质量和电视转播效果，改善场馆声学环境。
杨奇勇介绍，赛场结构转换方面拟采用钢木结构支撑体系及移动式制冰设备，转换完成后不仅可承办世界顶级冰壶赛事，还可以承接花滑、短道速滑等赛事，并实现冰类赛事、游泳赛事、活动场地间灵活转换，使国家游泳中心同时具备“水立方”与“冰立方”属性。
地下冰场有望明年底开放
同时，水立方拟在南广场新建地下冰场，该冰场有望在明年第四季度对外开放。水立方南广场冰场建筑面积约8453平方米，预留冰壶赛道，以地下空间为主，不降低绿地面积，不影响广场景观。据介绍，南广场冰场的冰壶赛道可在赛时提供热身场地，缓解北京市冰壶场馆稀缺问题。赛后永久保留冰壶赛道作为奥运遗产供市民体验，开放群众滑冰。此外，水立方还计划设冬奥文化展示区。
五棵松体育馆已预埋制冰设备
同为北京奥运遗产的五棵松体育馆将在2022年承担冬奥会冰球项目比赛，1800平方米的篮球场地届时将改造成冰面。五棵松体育馆品牌部总监袁颖慧介绍，在五棵松体育馆建造之初，就已预埋了从德国引进的整套制冰系统，因此赛场、改造工程将会小一些，冬奥会筹备将更多转移到后台用房、观众席和更衣室等配套设施的改造和建设。同时，五棵松体育馆还计划在主场馆东南方向新建两个冰球场地。
除了冰球比赛，未来的五棵松体育馆将成为北京又一个时尚生活圈。袁颖慧介绍，今年11月初，位于五棵松主体育馆西侧占地约七个足球场大小的Hi-up生活圈将建成并对外营业。目前，Hi-up生活圈已经和五棵松地铁站打通，市民下地铁后无需走到地面便可直接进入生活圈。

随着2022年冬奥会的临近，鸟巢引入世界级滑雪赛事长期落户，如“沸雪”世界单板滑雪赛已连续举办五届，国际雪联自由式滑雪空中技巧世界杯已成功举办三届，不仅赛事观赏性越来越强，专业观众也在逐年增多。
连续举办七届的鸟巢冰雪季是冬季北京市民最熟悉的冰雪运动项目之一，今年的冰雪季鸟巢设置了冰球、冰壶、越野滑雪、冬季两项等10项冬奥项目的体验区，并开辟了两条专业滑雪道和标准冰场及精美冬奥冰雕展，一共吸引了约20万人次在鸟巢参与滑雪、滑冰。这也使得这项连续举办七届的冬季活动累计吸引参与者超过140万人次。
