沿着小卖部往北走，有一栋学生宿舍楼，而这栋宿舍楼已经异常破败，窗户破裂、楼道垃圾遍布，属于学校已经弃用的学生公寓。
高承勇经营的小卖部就这样被裹挟在食堂和一排平房之间，显得隐蔽而不起眼。小卖部外观朴素陈旧，看来有些年陈。知情人告诉记者，这家小卖部建立于建校之初，有30多年的历史。而高承勇的妻子在三年前接手了这家小卖部，大家熟悉高承勇也就是这一两年来的事情。“他和妻子常年在一起看店，和别人打交道很少。”知情人如是说。
小卖部大门紧锁着，通过透明的窗户，记者看到，四十多平米的小卖部东西两侧分别是工作区和生活区。工作区是百货货架，堆放饮料小吃以及文具等，柜台上还摆放着一瓶喝了一半的矿泉水。生活区包括做饭区，另一侧是一张双人床。
